IN VENICE, THINKING OF KASHGAR

venice (written on a city map) one yard of scents, with blossoms filled/ one passage through the midday sun/ one house, one water, one whole town/ one thousand years become one day/ they know it here, you'll die quite soon/ and everyone will come and say/ what you may claim, and what remains/ and then they're ready to depart/ cause what we are stays in this world/ what we have done, what we have heard/ one scent, one stone, one sound, one plan/ a plea that says please understand

nice

nice

we're not that nice
we suck up ants
or vacuum them if you prefer
the proper word
we are of rather mixed descent
and heritage we come from here
and there are many lands
we're from or relatives of us have lived
have fled or marched or killed were sent
were held did dwell found work and died
in many lands as I have said
so we eat pork we eat all kinds
of vegetables and additives
we can afford to pick and choose
our words and tongues to some extent
the languages we speak and read
include chinese and latvian
we write chinese I don't speak dutch
or latvian but I have learned
some french and some romanian
some russian and I understand
some people sometimes but not all
not all the people every time
speak japanese or german bless allah
the lands and berries we are from
the pines the birch and chestnut trees
the oaks the roses everywhere
on walls the many kinds of leaves
and bless the ants bless all the bugs
we eat root out produce pass on
god bless the sand the waves the gulls
the rain the playmates and the wind
the sounds our son has formed the feet
the words and phrases we can hear
god bless the fear to overcome
to run to try to start anew
god bless us when we like the land
god bless us when we like our kind
god bless us when we feel the sun
we'll come again we leave and pray
god bless us all when we are done

vienna

to see the statues how they're sitting
above the gate when you ride by
to see the glowing lights transmitting
through window panes as shadows glide
a streetcar takes you through the maze
when you grew up your heart was like
or was it like an open book
you're riding on, you want to say
you ride your bike, and as you gaze
you sometimes get a better look
than yesterday, the day before
the day before another day
or maybe not. you'll look some more
and when you die
maybe you'll sit and seem alive

Wake Up Naturally - Hung Hung

Don't you call me
Let me wake up like the flowers
Let me wake up like a kitten
Let me wake up naturally
Just like tea leaves in hot water

Let me finish my dream and give me time to forget
Forget those sleepy carriages
The empty morning repetitions
The counting of sheep jumping over the fence
And the punch-card alarm clock - rring!

I will wake up naturally
From a hopeless love
I will wake up naturally
From a Confucian revolution
(you know it won't do and you do it)
I will wake up naturally
When I wake up it is day
Ships have launched
Cell phones are full of unanswered calls
and the rain has stopped
It's too late to welcome spring
I am springtime
stretching myself
preparing to
sprint three times around the earth

natuerlich erwachen

Do you consider yourself a good dancer?

Ask me anything
